OKAY publishes an annual list of free, low-cost, or scholarship-available summer programs offered by
church or community organizations in Chapel Hill-Carrboro.
Please let us know if you would like to be on the 2011 list.

 Current Concerns

Helping parents provide quality experiences for their children outside of school

  • During school year e.g. holidays, teacher work days, breaks
  • Summer Vacation

Agencies/Churches

  • Helping them to expand their programs and to reach out to other children
  • Assisting them to provide a meaningful experience for diverse groups

OKAY is . . .
* . . . a group of folks from various churches in the Chapel Hill area.
* . . . concerned about children in our community whose families are not able to provide for special extras.

SITUATION
Families
  • Many parents work long hours (and sometimes 2 jobs) to provide for basic living expenses, and cannot always be at home when their children are.
  • Families cannot access community programs - lack of information, cost, transportation, language, schedules.

Agencies/Churches

  • Do not know how to reach these families in need.
  • Do not know how to incorporate other children and providing meaningful experiences for a diverse group.
  • Do not have resources to expand.

 

Members of these churches are involved:

Amity UMC, Binkley Baptist Church, Carrboro UMC, Chapel of the Cross, Church of the Holy Family, Church of the Reconciliation, Community Church, 1st Baptist Church, Friends Meeting, Holy Family Episcopal, Holy Trinity Lutheran, Iglesia Pentecostal de Jesucristo, Iglesia Unida de Cristo, Newman Center,  O’Bryant’s Chapel, Orange UMC, St Joseph’s CME, St Thomas More, United Church of CH, University UMC
